BeatMaker music app for iPhoneI always wished I understood how to work samplers, sequencers and other tools of the electronic music trade. I’ve got lots of ideas for choons in my head (most of them involving squiggly acid basslines), but no technical ability to bring them to life. And I lack rhythm, crucially.

Still, if I was more technically adept, I’d be rushing to download BeatMaker. It’s a new iPhone app that offers sampling, sequencing and all manner of recording features, allowing you to become a superstar DJ (well, music-maker) on your handset.

Weighing in at 118MB, it squeezes in plenty of professional-quality music creation tools, in contrast to the more consumer-friendly (but limited) MooCowMusic Band app that came out last week. BeatMaker is pricey, at £11.99, but compared to the cost of real music kit, it’s a bargain.
