I never tire of that song. I doubt it features in Warner Bros’ new iPhone application though, which is based on the recent movie blockbuster The Dark Knight.

The app is called The Dark Knight: HaHaHa, and is a nifty personalisation application that lets you take a photo, slap some Joker artwork onto it, and then send it to a friend. Nothing more, nothing less.

Warner Bros has just released an update to the app though, which improves its positioning, scaling and rotation system, making it easier to use. It’s free, naturally, being a promotional app. You can get it from the link below.

Now it’s got a spiffing upgrade to version 2.0, with a host of new features.

The main change is the user interface, which has been made more intuitive. You can also tag the songs that you play on the iPhone, see calendar-based events, and enjoy a bunch of other improvements under the surface that make the app run better.

So far, the new version has been launched on the App Stores in the UK, US, Canada, Germany, Spain and France. It’s still free, making it one of the most appealing iPhone music applications.

You can keep ‘em, vicar! All the modern Christian needs is the BibleXpress iPhone application (okay, they’ll need an iPhone or iPod Touch too), which offers a bunch of different translations of the Bible, “from conservative to contemporary”.

Naturally, the app uses the iPhone’s touchscreen to let you flick through the pages, but its real use is for people studying it, as you can make virtual annotations and associate them with particular verses.

I’m no Christian scholar, so I’ll just report that it includes the ASV, NRSV, ESV, NASB and LBLA versions of the Bible, and hope that you know what those acronyms mean. The app is fairly pricey by App Store standards at £17.99, but considering you get all those different versions, it’s not bad (and will save you bookshelf space).

But then I’m an artistic type innit. Anyway, Molecules is a new iPhone app that’ll appeal to the likes of me, but also proper scientists. Possibly.

It lets you see and interact with 3D renderings of molecules, basically, using touchscreen controls to rotate and zoom them. You can download new molecules from the open-source RCSB Protein Data Bank, and store them on your iPod for looking at whenever you like.

Perfect for anyone who likes goggling at amino acids, nucleotides and other molecular structures, in other words. The app is free, too, so could be a handy tool for cash-strapped students.

CellSpin is just such an application.

It works with MySpace, Facebook, Blogger, Flickr, Livejournal, Typepad, Twitter and eBay, among others, so is pretty comprehensive. The app lets you blog using text, photos or your voice, or add media to - for example - eBay listings.

The CellSpin app is free, although initial reviews on the App Store suggest it’s having issues with crashes (it’s certainly not the only iPhone app to be encountering that. If true, expect patches within the next few weeks, but it’s certainly one to watch.

Netter’s Musculoskeletal Flash Cards is a new iPhone app that explains more refined aspects of your innards: specifically your bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. It’s a collection of 210 flash cards explaining which bit does what, designed to help medical students and serial killers revise on the go.

There are study and quiz modes to get you up to speed, and the app even connects to Google to look up extra information. Okay, so it’s pricey at £23.99, but for the people who’ll use it, that’s much cheaper than a textbook.

So far, I’m impressed. It’s slick, logged me in first time, and is easy enough to whack posts together. It can’t do some of the more complex stuff I have set up, and the iPhone’s lack of copy and paste is a bit of an arse when it comes to including links.

So, no App Store direct link, but it’s fast, free and impressive.

NetSketch is the latest, and it’s one of the most innovative.

Why? Well, it lets you draw pics using a variety of colours and brush sizes, while panning and zooming around them - with one effect being that your canvas can be larger than the iPhone’s screen. However, it’s the sharing features that make it stand out.

You can share with other people live over the iPhone’s Wi-Fi connection, with everyone’s changes appearing in real-time. Plus there’s a NetSketch community that you can upload your pics to, and then access them online. It’s Art 2.0! Or something.

Facebook was available on day one of the iPhone App Store, with a relatively basic service compared to the existing iPhone-friendly website. You could update your status and see what friends were doing, but that was about all.

Now it’s been given a v1.1 kick up the bum, with “dozens” of bug fixes and some nifty new features. For example, you can now write on friends’ walls, see their photo albums and browse their full profiles, rather than the cut-down versions you were restricted to before.

It’s also got proper photo tags, faster photo uploading, and more all-round stability. Thankfully, it’s still free - and they promise even more new features ahead.

Bring on the mild peril! Anyway, Galcon is a recipient of a 9+ rating, so don’t let your toddlers loose on it.

However, it looks fun for the rest of us. The £5.99 game is a space-based shoot ‘em up, although let’s be honest, there’s little point in specifying that - ALL the best shoot ‘em ups are based in space.

Anyway, it’s more cerebral than the usual schmup, to the point where it’s more of a strategy game. You have to send swarms of your ships to conquer other planets, which results in a day-glo screen full of little triangles battering other triangles. Always good.
